In a tragic occurrence that devastated the community of Newtown, Connecticut, Peter Blomberg, 72, the assistant fire chief of the Botsford Fire Department, was killed by a vehicle while crossing Church Hill Road (Route 6) on Monday evening. The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m., while Blomberg was on his way to the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners’ annual dinner meeting.
According to police reports, Blomberg was crossing the eastbound lane of Church Hill Road when he was hit by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck traveling in the same direction. Emergency services, including police, fire, and ambulance personnel, responded swiftly to the scene, where Blomberg was found injured. He was subsequently transported to Danbury Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
