On Saturday, October 26, 2024, a Halloween party in Akron, Ohio, ended tragically when an 18-year-old lady, Lashae Ellis, was shot and killed. Friends and neighbors met at a home in the 1400 block of Canton Road to celebrate Halloween. Gunfire broke out at 10:45 p.m., marring the night of revelry. According to an Akron Police Department investigation, the call arrived shortly after the gunshot, alerting police to an active situation involving numerous casualties. Officers arrived on the scene to find Ellis suffering from a major gunshot wound, as well as two other young individuals who had been injured. Despite prompt medical assistance, Ellis was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

While responding to the chaotic scene, authorities noticed an 18-year-old boy acting suspiciously near the gunshot location. After a brief chase, officers caught the suspect, who was spotted throwing away a firearm.
